Professional tips for cleaning battery vacuum cleaner

Interview with Patrik Schibli, Head of Repair Department

Patrik, why do customers most often send their stick cleaners in for repair?
In most cases, clogged filters and dirty sponges are the cause. Stick cleaners with multi-cyclone technology require regular maintenance. We recommend cleaning the hoover thoroughly after every third use at the latest.

In your experience, which area is most often forgotten?
The main problem is actually the sponge, which is the pre-filter in front of the HEPA filter. Many customers don't even notice it. To clean it, you have to remove the HEPA filter from the cyclone unit - and this is exactly what is often overlooked. The procedure is well described in the operating instructions, but unfortunately many customers don't look there.

How can customers clean particularly efficiently?
The more often they clean the vacuum cleaner, the quicker and easier it is. Firstly, they should empty the dust container - depending on the model, this is done via a flap at the bottom of the dust container. Then remove the multi-cyclone unit and take out the HEPA filter. The dust container can be wiped out with a damp cloth, the cyclone unit rinsed under running water and left to dry thoroughly.
When the HEPA filter is removed, the sponge underneath becomes visible. Customers should clean this regularly or replace it if necessary. The HEPA filter itself also requires regular care: the easiest way to remove the accumulated dust is by tapping it out or using a small brush.

How often should the HEPA filter and sponge be replaced?
How often the filter and sponge should be replaced depends on how often you vacuum. We recommend replacing the filter at least once a year. This protects the motor and maintains full suction power.

How do customers recognise that their filters are dirty?
There are several indicators. Firstly, the display shows a corresponding symbol. Secondly, you can hear it: if the vacuum cleaner becomes significantly louder, the filters are usually clogged. If the motor unit also becomes warm, this is a clear sign that the filters need to be cleaned or replaced.

Are there instructions for cleaning?
Of course. Customers can find the right operating instructions for every model on our website. We have also created cleaning videos for the latest models. Owners of older models can also use these as a guide. Anyone who owns a T9621 or T9670, for example, will find valuable tips in the ‘Quick Clean Prof. T2120’ video. And if you use a T0341 or T0359 model, you can watch the video of its successor ‘Quick Clean Prof. T2270’.

Are there any other areas that are often neglected?
Yes, these are the brush rollers. If hair gets wrapped around the roller, it will eventually jam. The brush roller can be removed from all models. Many floor nozzles have a release mechanism at the bottom of the floor nozzle. On the latest models, the brush rollers can be removed in a single, simple step.

What do you recommend to customers who find cleaning rather tedious?
For customers who want to make cleaning as easy as possible, we have developed the ‘Quick Clean Prof. T2120’ stick cleaner. This model offers a choice: you can either use the multi-cyclone system or vacuum with a dust bag. Switching between the two systems can be done in a few simple steps. A dust bag to try out is already included in the packaging. This gives customers maximum flexibility - and the convenience of a dust bag if they prefer.

How do you provide your customers with additional support when it comes to filters?
Our new models always come with a free replacement sponge and additional information flyers on cleaning. We also offer sets of 3 sponges in the webshop - including for older models such as T9621, T9670, T0341 and T0359. Many customers do not even realise that every Trisa stick cleaner has such a pre-filter. Regular maintenance keeps the appliance running efficiently for a long time.

And if customers are unsure or have questions about cleaning - what can they do?
Then of course they can contact us at any time - by phone or e-mail. We will be happy to help you and answer all your questions about the care and maintenance of our battery-powered stick cleaners.
